📋 RULES & REGULATIONS

THE DIAMOND ATHLETES STANDARD

At Diamond Athletes, we believe how you play the game matters just as much as the final score.

Every player, coach, parent, and spectator represents Diamond Athletes whenever we are together at a practice, game, tournament, or team event.

We expect everyone associated with our program to uphold the following standards.

⚾ 1. RESPECT

Respect is non-negotiable.

Players are expected to:

  • Respect teammates, coaches, opponents, umpires, and spectators.

  • Listen when coaches are speaking.

  • Treat teammates with encouragement rather than ridicule.

  • Accept coaching with a positive attitude.

  • Respect team equipment and facilities.

  • Demonstrate good sportsmanship regardless of the score.

We compete hard. We do not disrespect people.

🏆 2. FAIR PLAY & SPORTSMANSHIP

Diamond Athletes will compete to win while respecting the integrity of the game.

Players and families are expected to:

  • Follow the rules of baseball.

  • Respect umpires and their decisions.

  • Never taunt, threaten, or intentionally provoke opponents.

  • Win with humility.

  • Lose with class.

  • Shake hands and show respect after competition.

  • Never intentionally attempt to injure another player.

Our coaches will never encourage players to gain an unfair advantage through unsportsmanlike conduct.

The ABCA's coaching ethics similarly emphasize player welfare, respect for officials, and winning without compromising sportsmanship. (American Baseball Coaches Association)

🧠 3. PLAYER ATTITUDE & ACCOUNTABILITY

Diamond Athletes players are expected to be:

Coachable. Competitive. Respectful. Accountable.

Players should:

  • Arrive on time and prepared.

  • Bring the equipment necessary for practice or games.

  • Give their best effort.

  • Accept responsibility for mistakes.

  • Encourage teammates.

  • Take care of their bodies and equipment.

  • Maintain a positive attitude.

Mistakes are part of baseball.

Making an error is never a reason to embarrass a player. Refusing to learn from it is where the problem begins.

👨‍👩‍👦 4. PARENT & FAMILY EXPECTATIONS

Parents are an important part of the Diamond Athletes family.

We ask parents to:

  • Encourage their child and their teammates.

  • Allow coaches to coach.

  • Respect umpires and opposing teams.

  • Avoid arguing with officials.

  • Avoid negative coaching from the stands.

  • Bring concerns to coaches privately and respectfully.

  • Remember that the players—not the adults—are the reason we're here.

Parents should never confront a coach, umpire, opposing player, or opposing parent during an emotionally charged situation.

If there is a concern, we will communicate and address it professionally.

This type of parent boundary is also reflected in local Santa Monica youth baseball's code of conduct. (Santa Monica Pony Baseball)

🛡️ 5. PLAYER SAFETY

The safety and well-being of our athletes comes first.

Diamond Athletes will maintain a zero-tolerance approach toward:

  • Physical abuse

  • Emotional abuse

  • Bullying

  • Hazing

  • Threatening behavior

  • Harassment

  • Sexual harassment

  • Sexual abuse or misconduct

  • Discrimination

  • Retaliation against anyone who raises a legitimate safety concern

No coach, volunteer, parent, player, or other individual associated with Diamond Athletes is permitted to engage in inappropriate conduct toward a minor.

Youth sports organizations commonly use screening, education, reporting procedures, and clear adult/child interaction boundaries as part of abuse prevention. (California PAL)

🚫 6. SEXUAL HARASSMENT & ABUSE PREVENTION

Diamond Athletes maintains a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment, sexual abuse, exploitation, or inappropriate sexual conduct involving any player.

Prohibited conduct includes, but is not limited to:

  • Sexual comments, jokes, or gestures directed toward a minor.

  • Sexualized messages or communications.

  • Unwanted physical contact.

  • Sexual advances.

  • Inappropriate photographs or videos.

  • Grooming behavior.

  • Any sexual activity involving a minor.

  • Retaliation against anyone reporting suspected misconduct.

One Adult / One Child Boundaries

Whenever reasonably possible, Diamond Athletes will avoid situations in which one adult is alone with one minor athlete.

Individual instruction should occur in an observable or otherwise appropriate setting rather than behind closed doors.

These kinds of boundaries are consistent with youth-protection policies used by youth baseball organizations. (California PAL)

📣 7. REPORTING A SAFETY CONCERN

If you see something, say something.

Any player, parent, coach, volunteer, or other person associated with Diamond Athletes who has a concern about possible abuse, harassment, or inappropriate conduct should report the concern promptly to the club's designated leadership and, when appropriate, directly to law enforcement or the appropriate child-protection authority.

Reports will be taken seriously.

Diamond Athletes will not tolerate retaliation against a person who makes a good-faith safety report.

California's child-abuse reporting framework places reporting obligations on certain individuals working in youth programs, and USA Baseball specifically recommends that sports organizations establish clear procedures identifying who reports and how reports are handled. (USA Baseball)

Emergency: If a child is in immediate danger, call 911.

🩹 8. INJURIES & HEALTH

Players should immediately tell a coach if they are experiencing:

  • Pain

  • Dizziness

  • Headache

  • Shortness of breath

  • Injury

  • Illness

  • Any other condition that may affect their ability to safely participate

No player will be pressured to play through an injury simply to win a game.

Coaches may remove a player from participation whenever they believe continuing could create a safety concern.

🚨 9. DISCIPLINE

Diamond Athletes believes in teaching accountability rather than simply punishing mistakes.

Depending on the circumstances, violations may result in:

  1. Verbal warning

  2. Parent/guardian communication

  3. Temporary removal from an activity

  4. Suspension from practices or games

  5. Removal from the team

Serious violations—including violence, threats, abuse, harassment, or conduct that places another child in danger—may result in immediate suspension or removal.

💎 OUR PROMISE

At Diamond Athletes, we want our players to look back years from now and remember more than the games they won.

We want them to remember:

The teammates they made.
The lessons they learned.
The confidence they built.
The coaches who believed in them.
And the love they developed for the game.

WORK HARD. HAVE FUN. BE DIAMOND.
